Methodology

This page explains where our data comes from and how each statistic is calculated, so you can interpret the numbers with confidence.

Data sources

Results are fetched from public data feeds: the New York State Open Data (Socrata) API for Powerball, Mega Millions, Cash4Life and New York Lotto; the California Lottery for SuperLotto Plus; and the Massachusetts Lottery for Lucky for Life. Data is cached and refreshed on a schedule shortly after each drawing. A game may be marked as a historical archive when its source feed stops publishing new draws.

Frequency (hot & cold)

The number of times each ball appeared within the selected window of recent draws. "Hot" and "cold" refer to the highest and lowest counts in that window (roughly the top and bottom quartiles).

Omission (gap)

The current gap is how many draws have passed since a number last appeared. The maximum gap is the longest such streak observed in the window; the average gap is the mean spacing between appearances.

Distribution grid

A matrix of draws (rows) by numbers (columns); a cell is marked when that number was drawn. Column totals and the longest-omission bar summarize each number across the window.

Odd/even, high/low & sum

For each draw we count odd versus even balls, low versus high balls (split at the midpoint of the number range), and the sum of the main balls. Trends aggregate these across the window.

Jackpot odds

Computed directly from each game’s matrix using combinations: the chance of matching all main numbers, multiplied by the chance of matching the special ball where the special ball is drawn from a separate pool.

Important caveats

Lottery draws are independent and random. Past frequency does not change the odds of future draws, and no statistic here can predict winning numbers. Results are unofficial — always verify against the official state lottery before claiming any prize.
